A further selected compilation of Professor Donald MacLeod's statements, compared with the promises which he made and with Scripture. [Emphasis in bold is the compiler's.]
"[I]t was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (Jude 3)
Donald Macleod promised:
"I, Donald Macleod, do hereby declare, that I do sincerely own and believe the whole doctrine contained in the Confession of Faith, approven by General Assemblies of this Church to be the truths of God; and I do own the same as the confession of my faith; ...."
Donald Macleod promised to:
".... disown all Popish, Arian, Socian, Arminian, Erastian, and other doctrines, tenets, and opinions whatsoever, contrary to, and inconsistent with, the foresaid Doctrine of Faith."
Donald Macleod broke his promise by stating:
"Many of the men in the gospels (Peter, James, John, Thomas, Nicodemus) come across as deeply flawed. The women are much more impressive. Today, they should not have to claim a place or plead for a ministry in the church. It is theirs by right. They should simply get on with it. Asking permission merely gives boys of all ages a chance to be awkward." - West Highland Free Press, 4 April 1997
The Bible says:
"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." (I Corinthians 14:34-35)The Bible says:
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop must be blameless, the husband of one wife, ...." II Timothy 3:1-2)
The Bible says:
"Let the deacons be the husband of one wife ...." (I Timothy 3:12)
The Bible says:
".... and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee; If any be blameless, the husband of one wife ...." (Titus 1:5-6)
Donald Macleod broke his promise by stating:
"The other fascinating thing about Mark's account of the resurrection is the way it ends. Some people are deeply distressed by the idea that the closing verses of this gospel are a later addition. But that is the clear evidence of the manuscripts, according to which the gospel originally ended at Verse Eight of Chapter Sixteen. Is there a more enigmatic ending anywhere in literature than these words, "... for they were afraid." They are a brilliant (and totally uncontrived) reminder that the story is not over. There is more of Jesus to come." - West Highland Free Press, 4 April 1997
The assertion that this "is the clear evidence of the manuscripts" is simply not true! If a matter was brought before a secular court and their were over 600 witnesses that a certain event had occurred and two witnesses at variance with the 600, the two differing with each other and one of them having a memory gap and the other being unreliable in many other respects, the two would be at least disregarded, if not prosecuted for perjury. Yet there are 18 uncial and 600 cursive manuscripts which contain the last twelve verses of Mark. The two manuscripts which do not contain them, differ from each other in numerous places. Further, Sinaiticus is such a bad copy that there is evidence of 10 different editors who have attempted to correct the text. Vaticanus actually has a gap between the end of Mark and the start of Luke (the only such gap in the manuscript) into which the 12 verses would fit. Plainly the copier was aware that these 12 verses existed. The clear evidence of the manuscripts is that the last 12 verses of Mark are genuinely part of Mark's gospel.
Donald Macleod broke his promise by stating:
"My own personal knowledge of contemporary science cannot match that of Chalmers and Miller. But I know enough to be satisfied that the idea that the universe is 25 billion years old is as well established as Newton's Law of Gravity, Einstein's Theories of Relativity and Heysenberg's Uncertainty Principle." - West Highland Free Press, 18 April 1997
Donald Macleod broke his promise by stating:
"What he [Darwin] believed was that God originally created four or five species from which all other species evolved. That, of course, was not what Christianity taught (although Darwin was quite wrong to assume that Genesis taught either the immediate creation of all species or the fixity of species). - West Highland Free Press, 18 April 1997
Donald Macleod broke his promise by stating:
"The sinister thing for the Free Church is not simply that so-called Scientific Creationism is raising its head in their midst, but that it is openly suggesting that no other view can be tolerated. A generation has arisen which knows not Chalmers and Miller, or Cunningham, Stewart and Candlish. It knows only the anti-intellectualism of American fundamentalism and the fanatical intolerance of 17th century sectaries. Ignorant witch-hunts will be their hall-mark; and the more we appease them, the more ferocious will be their appetite." - West Highland Free Press, 18 April 1997
The Westminster Confession states:
"It pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, for the manifestation of the glory of his eternal power, wisdom, and goodness, in the beginning, to create, or make of nothing, the world, and all living things therein, whether visible or invisible, in the space of six days, and all very good." - Chapter IV:I
The Bible says:
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." (Genesis 1:29-31)
The Bible says:
"But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female." (Mark 10:6)
The Bible says:
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered the world, and death by sin; ...." (Romans 5:12)
