Does Roman Catholicism Call God a Liar?
"God is not a man, that he should lie;
."
- Numbers 23:19
The following excerpts are taken from The Baltimore
Catechism:
"We pay the temporal debt due to our sins, that
is, make the restitution, by our penances upon earth, or by our
suffering in Purgatory, or by both combined. The penances performed
upon earth are very acceptable and pleasing to God; and hence
we should be most anxious to do penance here that we may have
less to suffer in Purgatory. St. Augustine, who had been a great
sinner, often prayed that God might send him many tribulations
while on earth, that he might have less to endure in Purgatory."
- From Section 218.
- "219. Q. Does not the Sacrament of Penance
remit all punishment due to sin?"
- "A. The Sacrament of Penance remits the eternal
punishment due to sin, but it does not always remit the temporal
punishment which God requires as satisfaction for our sins."
"Remember that Baptism differs from Penance
in this respect, that although they both remit sin, Penance does
not take away all the temporal punishment, while Baptism takes
away all the punishment, both eternal and temporal; so that if
we died immediately after Baptism we would go directly to Heaven,
while if we died immediately after Penance we would generally
go to Purgatory to make satisfaction for the temporal debt."

How then do we explain the words of the Lord Jesus
Christ to the repentant thief on the cross:
"Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise." - John 5:24
The thief repented on the cross. He was unable to
perform any penances on this earth for his sins, so, according
to The Baltimore Catechism he would have to spend time
in Purgatory. Is Paradise another word for Purgatory? Did the
sinless Jesus Christ go to Purgatory?
In another place the apostle Paul writes:
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather
to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." - II Corinthians 5:8
and again:
"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is
gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor:
yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt
two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which
is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more
needful for you." - Philippians 1:21-24
Far from any mention of Purgatory, Scripture plainly
states that believer goes straight into the presence of the Lord
when he departs this life. This is fully in accordance with the
biblical teaching on the work of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the
cross.
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins,
the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God,
"
- I Peter 3:18
"Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to
us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that
I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will
put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write
them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." - Hebrews 10:15-17
The above statements from the Baltimore Catechism
are insulting to God and effectively call him a liar, for God's
Word tells us:
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." - I John
1:7
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." -
Isaiah 53:5-6
"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." - I John 5:10-13
When Roman Catholicism preaches purgatory it calls God a liar, because it does not believe the record that God has given us in his Word that "the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."
The Lord Jesus Christ tells those that do not understand his speech that they are of their father the devil.
"Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not." - John 8:42-45
To which group do you belong? Do you believe God? Do you believe the Pope? If you believe in purgatory, you call God a liar. You need to repent of your sins and disassociate yourself from that antichristian system.
"And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities." - Revelation 18:4-5
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." - II Corinthians 6:14-18
